Farthen tried to restrain himself but could barely control himself at all. He felt his hand traveling under her shirt and up the small of her back. He pulled her closer and at the same time pushed her against the tree a little bit harder. He was trying to get rid of any space in between them. He finally managed to pull his lips a centimeter away from hers and whispered, "We should get moving. They will be coming for us soon."

Evange’s skin tingled where ever she felt Farthen’s hands touched her. Little noises of pleasure came from her as he pulled her closer still, ignoring the trunk of the tree now digging into her back. She was breathing hard when he finally pulled away a miniscule distance. “How are we going to get where we’re supposed to?” The shadows were pulsing and twisting and twirling as they reacted to her longing. She was eager to leave this spot so as long as they got to finish what they started.

"We will need to steal some horses because the boards are protected against magical entry." He kissed her again more gently and then pulled away fulled and took her hand. "We really have to go now." He pulled her towards him and smiled at her. "Let's go."

Evange wrinkled her nose at the prospect at having to ride horses. However, she couldn’t resist returning his smile when her hand was in his. “Yes, let us leave this place.” She was almost impatient to leave this day behind her. The world that she knew had all but crumbled into a thousand little lies and a new love discovered. Such experiences were tiring, and she was ready to leave it all behind and settle for a good nights sleep. As a side thought entered her mind, she glanced down at her tattered and ruined black dress and sighed heavily. “I must look horrible,” she muttered, not even wanting to think about that state of her hair.

Farthen smiled, "I can get a bath for you once we find some place to rest tonight." He gently pulled her forward and walked into the night with her closely behind him. He was wrapped deep in thought. So many thing had happened to him in the past few days. He could hardly believe it. He was in disbelief that in the past twenty four hours he had fallen in love, lost a major battle, almost died, and watched his best friends die. It was almost to much for him to take.

“That would be lovely,” Evange stated gratefully. She silently followed after him as they walked, listening intently for anything out of the ordinary. The forest was familiar to her, and if she focused hard enough she could almost picture her younger self running through the trees in her long dress completely barefoot, her eyes sparkling with mischief. Sighing, cast away the memory, knowing it could never be again with all that had occurred. She vaguely wondered how Farthen was dealing with all this.

As they approached the farm Farthen smiled, "Yes this will do nicely. There are horses and probably good gear in the barn. This is a remote location so no one should be able to detect or send warning of our passing." He smiled again and looked to Evange, "Soon after we get horses we should be able to rest."

Evange sighed in relief. She looked towards the stables where the sounds of neighing horses were coming from. “The sooner the better. I’d rather we gain as much distance from here as soon as possible. I don’t like the feeling of being hunted,” she admitted quietly as she looked towards the shabby looking farm house, searching for any signs of an inhabitant taking residence inside.

Farthen smiled and walked forward and knocked on the front door. "Open up in the name of the Ice Kingdom. Open up I say. If you don't terrible things will happen." He grinned mischievously back at Evange and whispered, "I just need to intimidate them into not telling of our passing." Then he saw a small river of blood coming out from under the door. "Never mind there are foul doings here." he broke down the door and gasped at what he saw.

Evange rolled her eyes with a grin on her lips. “Let’s just hope they aren’t angry farmers that’ll chase us off their land with pitch forks and torches,” she whispered back playfully. Her heart leapt in her throat at the sight of fresh blood running underneath the wooden door. This was definitely the time she wished her most for a weapon. She stood behind Farthen and peered hesitantly over his shoulder trying to see what had made him gasp.

Farthen slammed the door shut and pushed Evange back before she could see. He began murmuring in a ancient language. He pulled out a torch and lit it. He lit the house on fire and backed away. "Do not go in there... do not try to... please..." He pulled her into her arms and held her there. "Let us get the horses and go. I need to rest." He looked truly tired and as he went to pull away from her he staggered a little. He straightened and gently tugged her to the stable and pulled her over to the hay in the back and pulled her down with him. "I need to rest for a hour or two. You will stay with me right."

Evange was growing more worried by the minute as the house behind her burned while Farthen towed her towards the stables. “Farthen? What’s going on? What did you see?” She brushed her fingers gently across his cheek finally realizing just how tired he was while they lay on the piles of hay. “I promise to stay with you,” she reassured him, not at all liking how he was acting. The horses around them neighed and whined, lightly stomping their hooves as they listened to the fire raging in the house. Evange shot them a nervous glance and counted how many there were. She had never been so apprehensive in her life, fearing the fire may attract unwanted attention.

Suddenly the house exploded in a ball of magical energy and Farthen was suddenly on top of Evange. He fell was hit with a piece of wood and was knocked into unconsciousness. There was nothing left of the house. The area around the house was a crater. The barn itself and the horses were completely unharmed.

A scream ripped its way past Evange’s lips when the house suddenly exploded. She cowered beneath Farthen, fearing the army had found them and blasted the area with fire balls. However, after she pried her eyes open again, she saw the stables completely undamaged. She was still shaken when she turned to Farthen, lying there useless. Gasping, she sat up and checked for any wounds on his body. All she found was a forming bump on his head where he’d been hit was a piece of debris. She ripped another strip from the bottom hem of her long tattered dress and wet it in a trough of water, delicately pressing the material to Farthen’s head. The horses around them were going absolutely nuts, neighing apprehensively, and stomping around their stalls.

Farthen awoke with a start to the sounds of soldiers voices. The second thing he noticed was that they were buried in hay. He smiled to himself and though, "Well that was lucky." He gently removed himself from Evange's arms and slipped out of the back of the pile of hay. He drew his dagger and made his way through the pitch black night scape and slowly killed every fire soldier there was in the area. He spared the last on and brought him back to the barn and sat him down on a chair and spoke quietly his eyes glowing with rage. "How did you know where to find us."

Evange blinked slowly in the dark pile of hay. Her fingers searched for Farthen, but all they brushed were hay. Pursing her lips, she wiggled out of the pile of hay and thought amusedly to herself how she had gone from sleeping on the finest of beds to a pile of hay. She looked around and spotted Farthen with another man as she brushed hay off her long skirts. Frowning, she summoned a few stray shadows lingering in the corner and pulled them to her. As she approached them, her shadows slithered up around the soldier as if they were serpents coiling on a tree branch. “Love, this is quite a rude awakening.”
